This site was quarried for the marl to build the access road.
The goal of the quarrying was just to build the road rather than site preparation.
Guidance was given to prevent incurion onto the Maya house mound on the crest of the hill, and access roads were cut to go around that site, but the contract was just to build the road.
During quarrying, some harder rock was encountered and left while the crew went on to better road material.
Material from the remainder of the site will be required as back-fill following the completion of the reenforced, filled walls. NOTE: This page will load slowly. The pictures are all full-sized images, so you can zoom as big as needed to see details, but it does take longer to send all that image information. |
